Printer LCD Glitches After Starting Preheat

    Hi there,

I bought a RepRap printer Prusa i3 clone from Amazon.

I got it and when I assembled it.

It turns on perfectly and I can use the LCD Menus.

But as soon as I start a print or preheat the Hot End and Bet. The screen and LED on the MKS MakerBase board goes crazy. Black-On-Black-On until I unplug it.

The PSU is working. I also tested the PSU under load and it works.

Here is a video of the problem:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=396wx5WQzKw

I contacted the seller and they said that they will send a new MakerBase board. I bought the Printer with Amazon Prime so it came to my house the same day I ordered it.

But the customer service rep says it will take 15 days for the part to arrive from China.

I want to think that it is an issue I can fix on my own while I wait for the new part.

Anyone know how to fix this?

    Thanks,

    Ardalan G.

I would say this is definitely a power problem, if the supply is ok then check the connections, poor joints will often work OK until under load and then they will go high resistance and drop the voltage causing all sorts of issues, do you have an oscilloscope to look at the supply voltage at different points in the circuit?
Also check for bad solder joints on the PCB .

I agree with the power option. May I suggest a UPS? If that does not word I would rather replace the power supply.

        Ardy123,

It does appear to be some type of power issue ... as far as we can see from the video. Have you tried printing from something other than the LCD panel? Have you tried using pronterface.exe via USB serial connection? Have you tried Marlin 1.1.6 firmware? Within Pronterface you may setup the heater element and it will also print some error messages out in the interface. You can also enable in pronterface.exe debugging messages to further helping TS problem. Here is the link ... http://www.pronterface.com/

        Good luck,
        Ed

I wouldn't take any chances, who know if that will fix the problem (and if it doesn't it may be too late to return it) and the Chinese support is hit and miss. I would return it to Amazon as defective (They pay the shipping when defective) while you can and order another one.
