    2015 Makerbot CTC firmware upgrade

I got my CTC Makerbot out of the closet again. It says Creator Firmware version 1.0. I remember that upgrading the firmware did not work, something about the boot loader using the wrong baud rate that the USB Serial would set itself.
I want to upgrade the bootloders now and got a Arduino ISCP for that purpose. Now I see that there are actually tow micos with two ISCP's ,a. ATMEGA 1280 16AU and a ATMEGA 8U2, that seems to do the USB serial.
Does anybody know which micro I need to update? And what firmware / boot loader to use.

any ardiono that can do arduino as ISP will work. search for "atmega 8U2 arduino as ISP". also search "atmega 8U2 ISP programmer sketch". first you need a bootloader on your 8U2 which you already have if you purchased any arduino. if you purchased a 8U2 (not arduino) then you will need an AVR ISP programmer to burn the bootloader. you can not flash the arduino as ISP programmer sketch if you do not already have a bootloader. you can't load a bootloader if you don't already have an arduino or an AVR ISP programmer. it helps to think about ISP = ISCP. they are not the same but they are almost the same.

you got a USB ICSP programmer? or you got an arduino with an ICSP header on the board?

so now I got 7.6 the printer.

I don't understand your question. What would I recommend for what?

I loaded firmware version 7.6, some people use sailfish, some use other derivatives of the 3d printer firmware, I just wanted to know what you would recommend?

one problem I see now that the x3g format is not supported by any newer slicers anymore.
