  • Votoms Scopedog Action Figure

I've completed the model and later I'll be adding the smaller details like bolts and vents since I'll be working on each part of of the body adding joints. For now I've worked out the knee mechanism that enables it to transform into docking mode if you're familiar with the Votoms anime.I'm deciding which type of joints to use for the arms and legs as I don't want it to end up as a floppy figure. The knees and elbow will have a ractheting joint as I love the clicky joints. Also there will be a pilot cockpit but the size of the pilot will have to be determined with the size of the robot.

Printed part of the knee joint since it's already done and to see if it works which it does. This show how the knee slides up

Thanks Chris, what's nice about this mech is that it has some variants which I can also do with just replacing some parts and color. Decided to go with a 9 inch figure at the moment to see if everything part is good. I am planning on a 15 inch build as anything bigger would eat a lot of filament and would strain any joint.

I say the bigger the better. You dont see many LARGE 3d prints these days and I think this will really stand out!

I'll print a larger one when this smaller one turns out well. I was planning on a 24 inch version since it would fit a custom hot toys figure but that would really be massive, costly and I won't know where to put it lol.

Added more details to the legs and also finalizing the design on the leg joints. It was really hard to decide which type of joints to use for each part but decided to use a ball joint for the feet.

Started printing the feet. There was some bit of warping since it was cold while I printed it and I am using abs. The front part of the feet moves up and down while the spikes on the side extend. The spikes act as foot brakes for the robot on the show. The whole feet just snaps on together using a rectangle peg inside. There's gonna be a lot of post processing ill need to do to make the whole model look good.

Still a lot of parts to to modify including the cockpit for the pilot. I just hope it turns out really well, I'm just worried with some warping right now since our climate is a bit cold this month. I'm doing everything I can to make this into a snap fit model without the need for screws. I have also decided on the Scopedog variants I want to make including this Brutish dog version which will be an easy conversion since all I need is to model the right arm and install some tracks on the back side of the feet.

The lower legs turned out really well and feels really sturdy. I had to model the supports directly on the parts where there are overhangs as sometimes the supports that the slicer makes sometimes fail. I'm using blocks are pegs to assemble most of the parts since I'd rather not see any screw holes and it makes the model easier to assemble.

I'm done with the legs which is the hardest part of this model. I really had to design the legs to be able to carry the weight of the figure. No one likes a figure that fall down. All of the parts are fitted with pegs and no screws will be used to assemble the model.

Had to work on the pilot cockpit, I just hope that a microman would fit inside properly. I used a dummy as a stand in for the pilot figure.

Cockpit is almost done, I needed to model the cockpit as it will affect how I'll be placing the joints for the waist and arms. I think a 4 inch microman figure should fit well inside.

I tried out some flat green paint to see if it matches the character and saw that I need to make it a bit lighter. Still need lots of putty and sanding before I even attempt to start really painting it, also decided to paint it after everything is printed. I always paint my prints since I want them to look their best and they'll look much more closer the character.

I'm just printed the fists first instead of the one with moving fingers since my first design could not be properly printed since the parts were too small. I have finished modelling the guns but I still need to model the backpack and the upgrade parts.
