z axis band where support attaches

Hi, noob here. And my friend set up my Ender 3 pro for me so I probably know less than your average noob.

I've just started printing some simple shapes with good results using Cura to slice them. Then I printed something that needed supports from the build plate. That print looks pretty good except there is a wide z axis band where the supports are touching the object. To test it afterwards I printed a different tall object that didn't have supports and there were no bands, the print looks fine. I've been trying to find out info on this but so far all the z axis banding seems to be related to the z axis threaded rod, and that doesn't seem to be the problem.

There's a support under the chin of the object (a head) and one under the back of the head. Since both supports go to a similar height, you can see the wide band on the object at the same height.

So, any ideas about the problem? I did shrink the original object to about 50% and then sliced it. Was it a bad slice job from Cura? Is there something else going on?
