    CR10S PRO Z axis issue

    Hello Everyone,

I am having a problem with Z axis. Basically I was printing until a terrible noise started. From my attempts to figure out what the problem is, so far, I can tell that is the servo motor from the side where the X axis servo motor is. initially I thought that the Z servo motor but I have try the one from the other side, switching sides, and the problem remains in the same side, therefore is not the servo.

Other findings, when I apply resistance to the servo, the direction changes and I also feel that the power is not the same as the other side. I have tried also changing firmware but the issue remains. I am wondering now if the problem is the main board.

Any ideas what the problem is? Suggestions?

Expecting a CR-10S Pro *V2* in a couple of days - hope this Z-axis thingy and auto leveling is improved as the Pro "V1" seem tricky to level. Expressing my sympathy :-O

either the motor crashed or the stepper driver heated up to self destruction. if you keep running your stepper when it hits a wall eventually the heat will fatigue the motor. the same could be true for a bad stepper driver. if the stepper driver starts failing it could be sending destructive conflicting signals to the stepper motor that create heat and noise. you really should swap in another cheap stepper driver to see if the problem is solved. that way you know if the problem is the motor.

Thanks for your input. The motor is fine, bought spare ones from creality and changed and the behavior is the same. I have the feeling that the main board is the problem.

I am still a beginner on the 3D printing world, but I think the stepper driver is integrated in the board as you can see in the picture. So in this case, main board is default. This is assumption.... I will check with creality a replacement once this is still under warranty...

those boards are not too expensive. probably $30. you are correct that the stepper drivers are integrated not removable. shipping from aliexpress right now is just impossible. my suggestion would be to try flashing the firmware to the latest version or maybe flash marlin. if that does not solve the problem then you can buy the same or a slightly better replacment board.

            Hi Longbeardpolymer,

my impatience and the lack of support from creality (not sure if due to corona), manage to push me to find the problem. Nothing high tech, the problem was the cable. One of the four wires that connects motherboard to the motor is snapped, so there was only three signals reaching the motor. I guess creality can think twice when using zip ties so tight and short cables. Probably the cable broke in one of the places where the zip tie is.

            Thanks for the support.

            Marco
