Check the endstops (microswitches) if they are set wrong it won't move. Did you configure the firmware or was it on an sd card ?

The firmware was on an sd card, and i checked the endstops and they all appear to be in the right places and plugged into the right ports.

Ok you did well there so when you hit home does it make any noise and can you move the x carriage or y bed by hand.

is it connected to a computer thru usb cable and if you click to connect does it come on ? did you install the ftdi driver ? go to device manager if using windows and look at serial ports to see if you have a printer on a com port. You should be able via lcd panel make x axis move y axis move z axis move . when you tell the x axis to move try making it move by hand if you feel any resistance when a x or y stepper has been told to move and you try by hand then they are getting power. If you have a meter you can test power supply for power. Use home on only one axis at a time like home z if it doesn't move press the z axis limit and if it moves the end stops are backwards and we will deal with that contact me here I will check

ok you have power turn off move all axes to home position and turn on power. you should be able to move each axis using the LCD panel even without being connected to printer the board I am talking about is where everything plugs in I need to name on the board could be GT or something.

You can check the limit switches by moving all axis away from the limits, turn the printer on and go to POSITION then select X Pos.Fast and you should see a distance, then Min endstop - if it says OFF then if you press the X axis end stop switch it should go to on. You can do that for each axis.
