Z probe upgrade and setting z offset

    Hi everyone,
I've had my Anet A8 for a couple of years and it's worked great (no major issues).
I've recently added a SN04-n probe and upgraded the firmware to Marlin 1.1.9.
I have everything configured so that:
    • safehome enabled
    • X Y offsets for probe set so the probe homes to center of bed
    • Limits set so probe does not try to level off bed
    • Auto-level takes 9 points to calibrate
The issue I'm having, is that I cannot get the offset for the z axis to work. I've tried both negative and positive numbers, but every time I auto home, it seems to settle at the same place on the bed.
For example: I auto-home and the nozzle will stop on the bed. I use a piece of paper and adjust the height to get a good first layer.
In the z offset setting, I add this number as a negative number (z shows 0...I move to .34 and add -.34mm) to the z offset.
Once I auto-home again, the nozzle stops right on the bed in what seems to be the same location. Z axis still shows 0 and the nozzle id firmly on the bed.

the only way I can change the number on the LCD for the z axis after auto-homing, is to set the "z min pos" and the number will be whatever that number is, but the physical position seems to be well planted into the bed.

I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong...has anyone run into this type of issue? Suggestions for troubleshooting??

    Thanks for your help,

    Matt
