    I am a little concerned

I use Tinkercad a lot. I love it.
    I have installed and tried
    123D Design and Meshmixer
    3D Builder
    Craftware
    Cura
    Slic3r

I don't like any of them. I like Tinkercad.

My concern is that I know and use Tinkercad quite a bit, but it is not on my computer. It is a web site. I am relying on this web site and my internet connection staying up to 3D model anything. I feel like it could disappear without notice and I'll be up sh*t creek.

None of these installed programs will recognize my printer. It is on a wireless network connection, it has a dynamic ip address. The program that came with it works just fine. XYZ ware for Pro. I have a XYZ Davinci 1.0 pro. I think I am the only one on this board who bought one. haha. ...back to my point... So I am thinking that I should learn one of these programs and just use the slicer that came with the printer to print with. That's pretty much what I am doing now with Tinkercad.

So if I had to pick one of these programs to learn which one should it be? I have tried all of them but none of them are as easy as Tinkercad. I guess that's what I am looking for, easy to edit stl's. I think 123D Design should come closest to Tinkerd since they are both made by Autocad. But nothing is jumping out at me, which is why I am here. HELP!

Any guidance is appreciated - thanks in advance

I have been in a similar situation to you because my go to CAD programme used to be a programme that was made in the year 2000 and is no longer made. It currently works on windows Vista but I havent tried it on a newer version of Windows. Therefore, I realised there would come a time when some new version of windows won't run my CAD software (maybe that time has already come but I still have a Vista running PC luckily)

So I also looked at the alternatives like you have done. I looked at FreeCAD (and Blender 3D).

I have yet to learn Blender 3D but have been making progress with FreeCAD. When I started out it felt absolutely awful and FreeCAD seemed much worse than my old CAD package. However, as my knowledge started to increase I got used to FreeCAD and now manage ok. I hope to do the same to Blender 3D.

I guess the answer is just to make the leap and learn a new CAD software with the knowledge that the first 2 or 3 months you'll be irritated that you can do what you can on your other CAD software. But eventually you'll adapt and grow to love whatever new software you learn.

    I hope this help,

    Cheers,
    Will

If you like Tinkercad, I would check out DesignSpark Mechanical. It is the free version of SpaceClaim (what I use), a direct modeling software. You design things by drawing shapes and then pushing, pulling, etc. Would be a nice step from Tinkercad and is a local program on your PC.
