like title says I am looking into software that will allow us to create our own designs ( offline) and can save them in a stl file format to be printed. We have Qidi Tech 1 with dual extrude heads only using pla at this time.. I like to find a starting at least a free version ( trial ) then maybe work our way up to a full/ paid version. money is a issue as I am disable and dont have employment most days. I want to create stuff while I am off line at times. I been known to vanish offline up to a month at time when I am busy with projects, house work and if i get a side job. Plus I like to keep anything I design so I print only or i can edit it as I need for stuff. I figure if i can find a program that allows this and I can get better at it all I would be willing to share some none private designs I make if lucky enough to make something others would like. I think most the stuff I will be making will be once off at most times and not of high quality that some people are better capable of making.

Hi, there's probably plenty of software products that will do that, however, I personally use FreeCad, which definitely will produce the STL files you need to feed to the slicer program. As the name suggests it's free and opensourced, so you don't really need to pay for it.
The downside is that it is kind of complicated to use, I know I'm struggling a bit with it, but if you're looking to create parts and things of that nature, it's worth considering. -

If it were me, I wouldn't go along with that silliness. This is the 21st century there's absolutely no reason why software like that shouldn't be running locally. Especially, not if it necessitates not being allowed to own a specific copy.

Yes, SelfCAD runs on the browser only, but the important thing about it is that the internet is only required for launching the application. And once you have launched the software you can work offline too. And also, you can save your models online hence you can access them anywhere anytime.Originally posted by pfrank View PostComment

May have a SIMPLE answer here for you.
I use this as my CAD skills are hopeless.
So, i use Flash-Forges "FlashPrint".... this slicer package is a free down load to use with say.... a Flashforge Dreamer...
Drag your STL file into the work area, where you can stretch, cut, slice, add other pre-designed parts to it & merge them into your finished item ready to print...
You can then SAVE the output file as a new STL file to print on any 3d printer you wish.

may be nice if I had multiple printers at different locations I am looking for something that free/cheap ( maybe a simple mode and then as I get more xp with it U can try more complex options.) I also have a dedicated pc for the printing and that wont be online as it will be in too far from router to have a connection. I am preferring to find a free/one time fee type deal that even my wife can use without much help ( she can't get the regular printer to work at times but she can draw.) I ma going to look into some of the ones posted but I want to keep it simple and off line. I been doing the tinkercad but there are limits to what I can do on it so i am looking for a little more advance than it once I get the feel for it.Originally posted by ekaran View PostComment

I want to thank Pfrank your suggestion of the freecad was great but little to hard to learn so far I had great luck with the autodesk fusion 360 ( free version I found) I was able to design in a matter of minutes the items for my wife project. and even did a rough design a friend asked about off my mental image he gave me . do wish it was a little more simple like tinkerverse but I love that fusion 360 is offline able as the pc I run it on has not seen a update in like 5 months lol..Comment
